Sylvia Moore Jackson

Mrs. Sylvia Moore Jackson was born in Bordentown and graduated from William MacFarland High School with the Class of 1949.  Following high school, she matriculated at Howard University and received a BFA in 1954.

Mrs. Jackson has served as an art teacher, illustrator and art therapist in the Washington, D.C. area from 1954 to 1964.  From 1964 to 1971 she held the position of Personnel Specialist with the Department of Labor, U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office, Office of Economic Opportunity, Civil Service Commission and Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Mrs. Jackson was Chief of Personnel Operation for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare from 1971 to 1976.  She currently is a Personnel Specialist for the Department of Defense.  In this position she is the principal advisor to the agency director on the status of women within the agency.

Her main interest has been to foster increased employment opportunities for women, hobbies include painting, drawing, sewing and lapidary.
