Class of 2026 Graduation Requirement - Financial Aid Application

Class of 2026 Graduation Requirement - Financial Aid Application

Class of 2026 Families –

We are writing to inform you about a new graduation requirement for high school seniors in New Jersey, as mandated by P.L. 2023, c.295. This requirement affects all students graduating in the Class of 2026.

Graduation Requirement: All graduating seniors must either complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA) or formally waive this graduation requirement, as a prerequisite for receiving their high school diploma.

The FAFSA/NJAFAA gives students access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or vocational school.  Through completing the FAFSA/NJAFAA, students can be considered for federal financial aid, including Pell grants, work-study programs and loans.  In addition, many states and colleges use this information to determine students’ eligibility for aid.

Acknowledgment and Waiver Form: To comply with this new requirement, parents/guardians are required to complete the Acknowledgment and Waiver Form (link below). This mandatory form allows you to confirm that your student will complete the required financial aid application or formally waive the graduation requirement. Waiving this requirement does not prevent your student from completing the FAFSA or NJAFAA at a later date if they choose to do so.
