Sally Craig - Class of 1972

Sally Craig was born in San Francisco, California to John and Phyllis Craig. The family moved to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in 1956 and Sally attended the Base School for Kindergarten for the school year 1959-60.  The family moved to Bordentown, NJ in the summer of 1960 due to John’s deployment to Okinawa, Japan.  Sally’s father retired from the Marine Corps the following year and the family remained in Bordentown, NJ.  Sally attended Peter Muschal School from first grade to seventh grade, Wm. McFarland Junior High School for eighth grade and the Bordentown Regional High School for ninth to twelfth grade.Sally was active in the National Honor Society, the Future Homemakers of America, the Future Teachers of America, the Theatre program and the Chorus. 

 

Sally attended Glassboro State Teachers College (Rowan University) graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.  While in college Sally was involved in the Future Teachers Association, the Biology Club and the Environmental Club.  Sally enjoyed backpacking parts of the Appalachian Trail while in college. Sally was a lifeguard in the summer months as well as a camp counselor for the CER(CDA) program at Peter Muschal School

 

Sally taught at Peter Muschal School from 1976-2020.  She taught Kindergarten for 32 years and Basic Skills Math to students in first to third grade for 12 years.  She enjoyed not only teaching the students their abc’s and 123’s but she felt it was important that they “love” school and all it had to offer.  She enjoyed being the “cheerleader” for all her students and former students’ events throughout the years.  Sally was PMS teacher of the year 1993 and 2012.  She was the BRSD teacher of the year in 2004 and “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” 2003-04.

 

Sally retired from teaching June, 2020, the same year that her last Kindergarten class graduated.  She enjoys traveling, sharing times with family and friends and going to events for former students and family members.  Sally has 2 sisters, a brother in law, a niece, a niece in law, 3 nephews, a nephew in law, 1 great niece and 2 great nephews.  Sally is the second generation to be inducted into the Bordentown Alumni Hall of Fame.  She follows behind her mother Phyllis Asson Craig who was a legacy of her generation and a 2012 recipient.
