Marsha Delphia Suggs Smith

Marsha Suggs Smith, a 1966 graduate of Bordentown Regional High School, is currently a resident of Olney, Maryland.

Ms. Marsha Suggs Smith joined the Board of Trustees on July 1, 2009 when she was appointed to serve the remainder of a six-year term, which started on July 1, 2004. Governor O’Malley reappointed her to a full six-year term in 2010 and appointed again by Governor Hogan in 2016. Ms. Smith is the immediate past chair of the Board of Trustees, having served for two years in that office. Currently, she is Chair of the Board Financial Sustainability Committee and a member of the Association of Community College Trustees’ Audit and Finance Committee. The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond.
 
Marsha completed six years as a National Education Association Executive Committee member where she worked with 3.2 million educational members around the world to develop and support initiativesthat focused on quality teaching and learning in public schools. For more than 30 years, Ms. Suggs Smith was a team leader, resource teacher and assistant athletic director in Montgomery (MD) County Public Schools.
 
Ms. Suggs Smith has served as a member of the board of directors forseveral organizations, including the Montgomery County Education Association, Maryland State Education Association, Teacher Advisory Board at Coppin State University and chair of the Professional Standards and Teacher Education Board in Baltimore, MD. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the first African American sorority and Phi Delta Kappa, the professional association for educators. Ms. Suggs Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in Education from Tuskegee University, a master equivalent and an Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate from Maryland. A third generation educator, Ms. Suggs Smith has been a champion for public education and follows in the footsteps of her grandmother, mother
and father. Her husband, Reynauld and son, Husan are also educators.  After retiring from teaching, Ms. Suggs Smith became President and CEO of two businesses. She began MSS Concierge of Maryland, LLC, Personal Assistant Service in 2010 to help clients reclaim their personal time.
In 2015, Ms. Suggs Smith began MS Smith and Associates to provide strategic solutions for startup businesses and non-profits and to help current businesses begin their transformational change.
