Vocal Techniques

Most of the rules and grading policies above apply to Vocal Tech with the following exceptions:

Daily Work

  1. Be in your seat when the bell rings, otherwise you are tardy and will be marked so.  All tardies are required to sign in.
  2. Each student must have a notebook or folder in which to keep their written work and a binder that will stay in the classroom. Packets are issued periodically which must be brought to class everyday.  Students who do not bring their packets to class will receive a 10 point deduction from their daily grade.

Testing

Testing will be both oral and written.  Orals will occur approximately every two weeks, and will consist of solo sight singing and rhythm tapping.  Students are graded on accuracy of pitch and rhythm.  Written portions of the tests will focus on theory work.

Expectations

Students are expected to attain a level of competence in sight singing, matching pitch, and vocal production, and will demonstrate a working knowledge of how to read a choral octavo, including the understanding of symbols and terminology.  Students who fail to do so will not be considered for promotion into the performing ensembles.

Concerts

Vocal Tech sings at the Fall and Holiday Concerts.  Participation is mandatory.    Consult the rules above concerning excuses and consequences.  Attire for the concert is as follows:  Women – black blouse, black skirt or pants, black dress shoes.  If your legs show, you must wear black stockings.  Men - black dress shirt and tie (any color), black dress trousers, black dress shoes (no sneakers) and socks.
