Vocal Techniques Rules and Grading Policy

VOCAL TECHNIQUES RULES AND GRADING POLICIES

  1. All BRHS and Vocal Music rules apply in this classroom.

  1. No food, drink or gum is permitted during rehearsal.  You will receive one warning.

  1. Talking is to be kept to a minimum.

  1. Grades are based on written work, daily effort, and written and oral tests, and will include terminology, correct posture, breathing, use of space, and vocal production.  Daily work is 20%, orals and tests are 40%, concerts are 40% of your grade.

  1. Failure to sing in class must be accompanied by a note from your parent or doctor.  Failure to produce a note will result in adjustments to your daily grade. Absence from class for any reason will involve a make up assignment to earn back 5 points missed. It is the student's responsibility to request it.

  1. Participation in all Choir concerts is mandatory.  There is one this semester, on Wednesday December 18th.  An unexcused absence from concerts (work is not excused) will result in a zero for that grade.  Men must wear black long sleeve dress shirt, black dress pants, black socks, and black dress shoes.  Women must wear black dress pants or skirt and black blouse, black stockings and black dress shoes.  Any student who is not properly attired will not be permitted to participate in the concert, and will forfeit their grade.  If obtaining any part of this attire is a problem, please let Mrs. Kirk know as soon as possible.  Failure to notify at least two weeks prior to concert date is considered unexcused.

  1. Students who wish to be placed in any vocal ensemble must demonstrate a mastery of the proper vocal techniques emphasized during this semester. Students may enter Core Choir, Show Choir, or Chorale in the spring, but not Honors without an audition.  Additional auditions for these ensembles will be held in the spring.
