2015 Food Drive Results

The International Thespian Society (ITS), a division of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), is pleased to announce the results of Bordentown Regional High School's Thespian Troupe 6803’s participation in the International Thespian Society’s Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat program. This year, ITS Troupe 6803 collected 5,000 pounds of canned and dry goods for Burlington Community and Emergency Services. This is the most food the troupe has collected in a single year since they began participating in the program in 2010.

Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat is a national community service program for ITS member schools to collect canned and dry goods for local charities and food banks. Thespian troupes from across the country are participated in the program this year, and thousands of pounds of food were collected across the state, giving theatre students the ability to help their local community. Bordentown students collected food throughout October, as well as at the Bordentown Halloween Parade and by going door to door on Halloween to collect food donations instead of candy.

In six years of participation in the program, Troupe 6803 has collected over 20,000 pounds of donations. BordentownRegional High School's Thespian Troupe 6803 would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who donated to those in need.

In 2010, the generous donations of the Bordentown community helped Troupe 6803 to surpass their original goal of 1,000 pounds and ultimately donate 2,002 pounds of food. For this, Bordentown Regional High School ITS Troupe #6803 was awarded the 2010 Harvest Excellence Award by the International Thespian Society.

The Educational Theatre Association, founded in 1929, is an international nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and strengthen theatre education as a means of lifelong learning. A professional association for theatre educators, EdTA also operates the International Thespian Society, an honorary organization for high school theatre students.

The Bordentown Regional High School Theatre Club and Stage Crew are part of the International Thespian Society, an honor organization for students who excel in the theatrical arts. The BRHS Thespian Troupe 6803 has produced students who are not only performers, but directors, designers, technicians, leaders, and community activists. Their annual season of dramas, comedies, children’s theatre, musicals, festivals, and one act plays have garnered BRHS numerous awards and nominations from the New Jersey State Thespian Festival, the International Thespian Festival, the New Jersey Theatre Night Awards, and the Greater Philadelphia Cappies Awards.

At Saturday night’s Greater Philadelphia Cappie Award Gala, Bordentown Regional High School junior Cynthia Reynolds was awarded the 2015 Cappie Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Musical for her role as Gladys in the BRHS musical, The Pajama Game!

The Gala, held at the Eastern Regional Performing Arts Center, honored high school theatre productions from the 2014-2015 season.

Bordentown Regional High School’s spring production of The Pajama Game and the BRHS Theatre program were nominated for seven Greater Philadelphia 2015 Cappie Awards. Cynthia Reynolds and Mary Liz White were recognized with nominations for Outstanding Junior Critic. Senior Dakota Torres received a nomination for Outstanding Female Vocalist for her role in The Pajama Game, and the Steam Heat dancers Cynthia Reynolds, Haley Szenczi and freshman Sarah Reichard were nominated for Outstanding Dance Ensemble. Senior Haley Szenczi was nominated as Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical, and the entire BRHS Cappies Critic Team received a nomination, recognizing their hard work and writing talent this year.

BRHS seniors Haley Szenczi, Carolyne Gonzalez, Ivan Trancon, Erin Hansell, and Leah Tasseff performed in the Cappies opening number in front of an audience of over 1300 people at last night's ceremony. Dakota Torres and Leah Tasseff also assisted in the ceremony as "Vannas", bringing trophies and microphones out to award winners throughout the evening. BRHS principal Mr. Rob Walder represented Bordentown Regional High School as a Cappies awards presenter.

The Cappies is a national program that honors and celebrates the achievements of high school theatre, which culminates in an annual Gala. The Bordentown Regional High School Cappies Critics Team (Lead Critic Haley Szenczi, and team members Ivan Trancon, Cynthia Reynolds, Mary Liz White, Cassie Bolinger, and Michaela Mabin) have been working hard all year, attending area productions and serving as the BRHS representatives for the Cappies program.

BRHS THEATRE NOMINATED FOR SEVEN CAPPIE AWARDS

Bordentown Regional High School is proud to announce that their theatre program and spring production of The Pajama Game has been nominated for seven Greater Philadelphia 2015 Cappie Awards!

The 2014-2015 BRHS Cappies Critic Team has been nominated for the Outstanding Critic Team Award. This year’s team, under the guidance of Lead Critic senior Haley Szenczi, included senior Ivan Trancon, juniors Cassie Bolinger, Cynthia Reynolds, Mary Liz White, and sophomore Michaela Mabin. The BRHS team has spent the school year attending area productions and serving as representatives for the Cappies program. Their reviews have been selected for publication in area newspapers ten times this year.

Senior Dakota Torres has been nominated as Outstanding Female Vocalist for her performance as Babe in The Pajama Game. Dakota performed in BRHSmusicals all her four years of high school, including roles as Holly in The Wedding Singer and Winnie in No No Nanette.

In the category of Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical, senior Haley Szenczi has received a nomination for her role as Mabel in The Pajama Game. Haley starred as Julia in last year's production of The Wedding Singer, and was a member of last year's Cappie nominated Cappies Critic Team.

2015 Cappie Spirit Award winner Cynthia Reynolds has been nominated as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical for her role as Gladys in The Pajama Game. In addition to the winning the Spirit Award for BRHS, Cynthia has also received a nomination for 2015 Outstanding Junior Critic. In 2014, she was nominated for Outstanding Comedic Actress in a Musical and Outstanding Cappies Critic.

Cynthia Reynolds, Haley Szenczi, and freshman Sarah Reichard have been nominated as Outstanding Dance Ensemble for their performance of the classic song and dance "Steam Heat". This was Sarah's first performance in a BRHS musical.

Junior Mary Liz White has been nominated for Outstanding Junior Critic for her work with the Bordentown Cappies Critic Team. She has had her reviews published four times this year by the Philadelphia Inquirer. This is her first year as a Cappies Critic.

The Cappies is a national program that honors and celebrates the achievements of high school theatre, which culminates in an annual Gala. The CappiesGala will be held on Saturday, May 16th at 5:30PM at the Eastern Regional Performing Arts Center.

Bordentown Regional High School’s 2012 musical, Legally Blonde, was awarded five Cappies, including the prestigious 2012 Greater Philadelphia CappieAward for Outstanding Musical. Bordentown Regional High School is home to International Thespian Society Troupe 6803, which has won awards for both its productions and individual students at the New Jersey Theatre Night Awards, the Greater Philadelphia Cappies, the New Jersey State Thespian Festival, and the International Thespian Festival.

The next production for the award-winning thespians of BRHS will be their annual One Act Play Festival, featuring performances from all the students listed above and many more! The One Act Play Festival will be presented on Friday, May 8th at 7:30PM. Tickets are $5 at the door.

2013 Trick Or Treat So Kids Can Eat Food Drive

Bordentown's International Thespian Society Troupe 6803 is proud to announce that their 2013 Trick Or Treat So Kids Can Eat Food Drive has resulted in a collection of 4,121 pounds of food! This is more than 600 pounds above our goal of 3,500, and more than 800 pounds more than last year! Thank you to all who spread the word, drove trick or treaters to pick up donations on Halloween, organized cans into boxes, and of course who donated! We couldn't have done it without you!

As part of their participation in the Festival, our Bordentown thespians performed the one act play, "The Open Window", directed by senior Madison Parrotta, and competed in the Group Musical Theatre category with their song "Freak Flag", receiving high scores from the judges in both events.

2012 Trick Or Treat So Kids Can Eat Food Drive

Bordentown Regional High School International Thespian Society Troupe #6803 has collected 3,318 pounds of non-perishable food and pantry item donations through our 2012 Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat food drive!

In 2010, our goal was 1,000 pounds, and we ended up with over 2,000. In 2011 our goal was 2,500 and we collected 3,069 pounds. This year we had a goal of 3,000. Thank you for helping us to once again exceed our goal!

Also, a big congratulations goes out to Matt Luyber and BRHS International Thespian Troupe 6803, whose Halloween float to promote the food drive won first place in the Youth Organization category in the Bordentown Halloween parade.

Many thanks to those of you who brought in donations, who collected donations, who spread the word about the food drive... we couldn't have done it without you. Thank you for helping us help so many people in our community.

Bordentown Regional High School Students Attend The 2012 International Thespian Festival

So what do high school theatre students do once they’ve won the 2012 Greater Philadelphia Area Cappie Award for Best Musical?

Get on a plane and head off to Nebraska, obviously.

That may sound strange… unless you know that Lincoln, Nebraska is home to the annual International Thespian Festival, which is the premiere event on the high school theatre calendar. And for five Bordentown Regional High School students, there was no place they’d rather go to start off their summer vacation.

BRHS students Rachel Gordon, Ashley Hansell, Erin Hansell, Matthew Luyber, and Megan Sirak and their troupe director Stacie Morano spent last week in attendance at the 2012 International Thespian Festival. These students are members of International Thespian Society Troupe #6803, an honor they earned through their hard work and dedication to the performing arts. While in Nebraska, they participated in workshops for everything from college audition preparation to costume design, auditioned for college programs, and discussed theatre with students and professionals from around the world.

The week showcases qualifying high school performances on four stages, a wealth of learning opportunities for students and educators in over one hundred workshops and master classes, a student leadership program, auditions for college admission and Thespian scholarships, the Thespian Playworks student playwriting program, and much more. The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed Thespian Festival 2012 on its National Advisory List of Activities for 2012.

Megan Sirak, who graduated from BRHS only days before attending the Festival, was chosen from among hundreds of auditioning actors to perform in this year’s Thespian Playworks program. Thespian Playworks is a writing competition and script-development program for high school students, sponsored by the Educational Theatre Association and run by the staff of Dramatics magazine. Each year, up to four finalists are invited to bring their scripts the Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they work with a professional director, a dramaturg, and a cast of actors to put the short plays up on their feet before a live audience. Megan performed the role of Minerva in the premiere staging of Shelf Life by Beth Seeley, a play about the lives of dolls in a museum.

The International Thespian Festival also hosts the National Individual Events Showcase, which is an educational program that offers Festival delegates the opportunity to receive constructive feedback on prepared theatrical material and technical designs. The goal for participating students is to find their talent, strengths, and weaknesses and to grow as theatre artists. This year, Bordentown Regional High School was represented in the National Events Showcase auditions by junior Matthew Luyber, who performed contrasting monologues and received superior scores from the Festival judges. Matthew qualified for performance on the national level by achieving a Superior Medal rating at the New Jersey State Thespian Festival this past March.

This was the second year in a row Troupe #6803 attended the Festival, but it has already become a highly anticipated annual event for the students of BRHS. With comments like “It was the best week of my life!” (Rachel Gordon) and “I learned so much” (Erin Hansell), it’s no surprise that for BRHS actors, the plans for attending for next year’s festival have already begun.

LEGALLY BLONDE AT BRHS WINS 2012 CAPPIE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING MUSICAL

At last night’s Greater Philadelphia Area Cappie Award Gala, the Bordentown Regional High School spring production ofLegally Blonde was awarded the 2012 Greater Philadelphia Area Cappie Award for Outstanding Musical. The Gala, held at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, honored high school theatre productions from the 2011-2012 season.

In addition, BRHS senior Arden Walker won the 2012 Cappie Award for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Musical for her role as Elle Woods. Junior Brandon Hudik was awarded the Cappie for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, and the team of Samantha Brumbaugh, Emma Reichard, Megan Haltmeier, and Megan Stein won the award for Outstanding Stage Crew. The Video People dancers of Legally Blonde's Act Two opening song "Whipped Into Shape" was awarded the Cappie for Outstanding Dance Ensemble. Senior Megan Sirak won the 2012 Cappies Spirit Award, honoring her dedication to this year's BRHS musical.

Bordentown Regional High School Students Attend 2011 International Thespian Festival

Some students go to exotic countries for their summer vacations. This year, five Bordentown Regional High School students kicked off their summer breaks by spending a week in Nebraska.

It may sound like an unlikely choice for a fun-filled week, but Lincoln, Nebraska is home to the annual International Thespian Festival, which is the premiere event on the high school theatre calendar. And although Bordentown Regional High School has a history of putting on award-winning theatrical performances, this is the first time the school has been represented at this prestigious event.

Bordentown Regional High School students Frankie Confalone, Ashley Hansell, Sara LaMachia, Matthew Luyber, and Bailey Sheehan spent last week in attendance at the 2011 International Thespian Festival. These students are members of International Thespian Society Troupe #6803, an honor they earned through their hard work and dedication to the performing arts. While in Nebraska, they participated in workshops for everything from college audition preparation to costume design and discussed theatre with students and professionals from around the world.

Bordentown Regional High School was represented in the National Events Showcase auditions by sophomore Matthew Luyber and junior Sara LaMachia, who performed their musical theatre duet, "My New Philosophy" and received high scores from the Festival judges. This duet qualified for performance on the national level by achieving a Superior Medal rating at the New Jersey State Thespian Festival this past March.

2011 Greater Philadelphia Area Cappies Awards

The cast and crew of our spring musical, Curtains, attended the 2011 Greater Philadelphia Area Cappies Awards on May 15th. The Cappies honor and celebrate the achievements of high school theatre, which culminates in the annual Gala. The Bordentown Regional High School Cappies Critics Team (Brittany Friedman, Megan Sirak, Frankie Confalone, Bailey Sheehan, Matt Luyber, and Arden Walker) has been working hard all year, attending area productions and serving as the BRHS representatives for the Cappies program.

The cast and crew of the BRHS fall production, Twentieth Century attended the 2010 Theatre Night Awards at Montclair University, where they were nominated for seven awards (including Outstanding Overall Production of a High School Play). BRHS sophomore Arden Walker won the award for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy for her performance as "Ida Webb" inTwentieth Century, and Arden, Johnathan Trombino, and Kevin Nabinger presented a scene from their award-nominated play at the ceremony.

The Theatre Night Awards is held annually to honor excellence in New Jersey high school theatrical productions of plays. The BRHS production of Twentieth Century was honored with seven nominations:

The Cappies, "Critics and Awards Program," is a national program through which high school theater and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers like The Washington Post, Cincinnati Enquirer, Dallas Morning News, Kansas City Star, and The Philadelphia Inquirer. At the end of the year, the student critics vote for awards that are presented at a formal Cappies Gala. In July and August, many of the top award honorees from around the U.S. and Canada are invited to participate in the Cappies International Theater, where they perform shows at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Bordentown Regional High School participates in the Greater Philadelphia Area Cappies program. Our student critics Ben Walker, Nick Rodriguez, Adam Edwards, Brittany Friedman, and Lauren Nowalski have attended and reviewed high school productions throughout the school year as representatives of Bordentown Regional High School.
