Over the past few years there has been a lot of discussion in regards to concussions and sudden cardiac death among young athletes. However this is not just taking place in the professional arena, but there has been an increase of occurances in young athletes. Many organizations are reviewing and changing policies in regards to safeguarding athletes. For instance, the NFL has tightened their policy on helmet-to-helmet hitting/tackling and as become extremely regimented in their concussion policy.
I would like to take a moment of your time to educate you on both concussions and sudden cardiac death. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with some of this information. Children are beginning competitive sports at such an early age and I feel it is important to familiarize ourselves with some of the warning signs before it is too late.
Interscholastic school sports can be an eye opening experience as to the competitiveness that occurs on the fields/courts. Hopefully this information will give you an insight into these two serious conditions that should not be taken lightly.
